Describe the creative youth microprojects that your nonprofit would fundraise for if you win.

:

youthSpark Voices is a one-of-a-kind prevention program designed to prevent the commercial sexual exploitation and trafficking of girls, many of whom are already victims of child or sexual abuse. Empowering the girls to find their voices, the My Right to Write publishing project will allow them to “speak their truths.” The unique rendering of these stories will offer an honest, raw and healing look at the girls’ experiences and hard-won lessons as they seek to transform their lives and to inspire youth in the US and globally. The girls will write and design an e-book: Yesterday I Found My Voice, a compilation of stories, letters, tweets, poetry and song. Their combined uplifted voices will provide the ultimate message on the realities of the threat of human trafficking. This project enables them to advocate to peers and others on vulnerabilities and the dangers of unhealthy behaviors. They will learn the publishing business and form a publishing entity to market and share their work.

Explain how possibly gaining funding through the Give for Youth platform would better able you to complete these projects.

youthSpark Voices is founded upon the affirmation, “Yesterday I Found My Voice, Today I’m Here to Shout About It”. Microproject funding will enable the girls to launch a social enterprise publishing project and to lift their voices. From our background in the child sex trafficking arena, we understand the vulnerability of those in our communities that lack funds and resources for the basic needs of life – food, shelter, and clothing. That is what traffickers pray upon. Our goal is to impart valuable tools and resources that will put the girls on the path to self- sufficiency and to realize their full potential. With the funding, youthSpark Voices would solidify an entrepreneurial collaboration to deliver classes and tools on business planning, financial management and the publishing process. While self-expression is a powerful element of crafting a book, marketing and sales are the essential factors that determine a successful book campaign and broaden the scope of impact and revenue.

Describe why your nonprofit is innovative and entrepreneurial.

:

For over a decade, youthSpark, Inc. (formerly the Juvenile Justice Fund) has transformed the lives of children who have been exploited, abused, or neglected. Based at Fulton County Juvenile Court, we work collaboratively toward systemic change. We pioneered the movement to combat child sex trafficking in Georgia and built innovative partnerships amongst lawmakers, law enforcement, public leaders, foundations and the community. Sadly, child sex trafficking is a business driven by the basic laws of economics: supply and demand. youthSpark seeks to combat this most heinous form of child abuse on both of these fronts. Our A Future. Not A Past. campaign fights demand through research, advocacy to alert the community about this problem, and lobbying for stronger laws to punish the adults involved in this crime. youthSpark Voices seeks to halt supply by identifying and working with at-risk girls to prevent them from becoming trafficking victims and providing a model for self-sufficiency.
